Santa Fe County, New Mexico Inmate Search

An inmate search in Santa Fe County accesses the Santa Fe County official database (a directory of people in the justice system) to locate an individual currently in custody. An inmate search helps members of the public, including family, friends, and victims, to track the status of an offender and know if they have been released.

Individuals arrested in the county are typically held at the Santa Fe County Correctional Facility, which is overseen by the Santa Fe Corrections Department. If an arrestee is convicted of the alleged crime in court, they may then be transferred to a state prison, such as the Penitentiary of New Mexico, situated in Santa Fe County. The penitentiary is run by the New Mexico Corrections Department and not the local Corrections Department.

How to Find an Inmate in Santa Fe County Jail

The Santa Fe County Correctional Facility allows the public to search for inmates remotely or offline. To conduct a remote inmate search, individuals may use the Santa Fe County Correctional Facility’s Inmate Lookup portal. The portal contains details of all adults who have been arrested and confined in the county jail and can be queried by inmate name or ID number.

The detention center offers easy access to inmate records through this portal; however, the center does not assume liability for inaccuracies in online records and places the responsibility for verification on the researcher. Individuals may verify the details of a record found on the Inmate Lookup portal or inquire about an inmate not visible on the portal by calling or visiting the correctional facility. Santa Fe County Visitation Rules and Schedules

In Santa Fe County, inmates are generally allowed to receive visits from family and friends; however, traditional face-to-face contact visits are currently not offered to inmates. The detention facility utilizes a video visitation system, which provides for both on-site and remote visitation.

On-Site Video Visitation

The Santa Fe County Correctional Facility allows inmates to have two on-site non-contact visitations per week. On-site visits come at no cost to the visitor or the inmate; however, visitors must adhere to the on-site visitation rules. Violation of the set rules may lead to the termination of the visit and the suspension of the visitor’s visitation privileges. Prohibited conduct by visitors includes

  • Visiting the facility while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Attempting any form of sexual contact with the inmate
  • Loitering or smoking in the parking lot
  • Using abusive language towards staff
  • Not having proper control of children during a visit

Visitors must also hand over their car keys and identification card to the front desk officer.

Off-Site Video Visitation

Off-site video visitation in Santa Fe County is provided and managed by a third-party vendor. The vendor helps connect family and friends to an inmate in the correctional facility remotely. All that is needed for a visit is a mobile device or computer having internet access. This service is not free and comes at a charge to the visitor; however, there are fewer rules to follow compared to on-site video visitation. Below are the general rules for remote visits.

  • Visitors should dress appropriately and not wear any revealing clothes (see dress code policy)
  • Visitors are not to behave in a seductive or sexual way
  • Visitors should not display or use any drugs during the visit

For both on-site and off-site visits, a first infraction generally carries a visitation suspension penalty of 30 days. A second infraction carries a suspension for 6 months, while a third infraction will result in the visitor being banned indefinitely. Inmates facing discipline only get one visit per week.

Mailing and Commissary Information

On September 1, 2024, the Santa Fe County Corrections Department updated its inmate mail process to prevent drugs and contraband from entering the facility. Currently, the Department instructs all personal correspondence to be routed to the address of a scanning facility managed by a third-party vendor.

Legal mail and business/transaction documents are still mailed directly to the jail facility. Legal mail must be forwarded by a legally approved Licensed Attorney of Record. Legal mail may be addressed in this format:
